Lip fillers are dermal fillers indicated for use in the lips. Most are hyaluronic acid-based (HA) fillers, which means that they attract water from the surrounding tissues to cause a natural plumping effect once injected. HA fillers are also very soft, making them a favorite for the lip area because they feel and look very natural.
Although most of us associate lip fillers with simply increasing the size and volume of the lips, they are also used to:
During your initial consultation, you and your provider will discuss your aesthetic goals for your lips and map out a plan to achieve this with lip filler. We focus on creating lips that look soft and natural.
Depending on your lips' original size and shape and your desired aesthetic, we may recommend different fillers to create your ideal lips. Most of the lip fillers we offer last up to one year. The most common lip fillers are:
Your provider will recommend that you abstain from using certain OTC drugs like aspirin or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen before your appointment and supplements like fish oil, as they may increase your chance of bruising during your treatment. She may also prescribe a prophylactic antiviral before your lip filler appointment if you suffer from fever blisters or cold sores.
Your provider will use topical numbing and ice to ease any discomfort associated with the injection process during your appointment. Many of the fillers we use also have numbing agents within the product, making the injection process very comfortable. Based on the goals you have for your lip shape and size, your provider will inject the selected lip filler to enhance the appearance of your lips.
In some cases, your provider may even recommend a few units of Botox® or Dysport® in addition to filler to slightly flip your upper lip and expose more surface area, which makes your upper lip look fuller.
Immediately after your injections, your lips will be swollen and tender. Bruising is also a possibility with lip filler. You may even feel as though your lips are bumpy in certain areas. All of these symptoms will subside within a week as your new lips take their beautiful new shape. Be sure to schedule lip filler at least two weeks before any special event to ensure all swelling has gone down.
The cost of lip filler depends on the product you and your provider decide to use to enhance your lips. Most treatments start at $650.
